The qualification is not discipline-specific and is suitable for instructors who work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. \nThe Paddlesport Instructor is an entry-level qualification\, achieved on a 2-day course\, designed for: \n\nInstructors in clubs;\nInstructors for providers/centres who offer paddlesport activity; and\nInstructors within schools\, DofE\, Youth Groups\, Uniformed Groups\, etc.\n\nThe qualification will support the instructor with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat\, initial familiarisation activities\, games and activities to support learning and how to use mini journeys to support learning\, inspire adventure and exploration. This will be enhanced with support on how these sessions can be delivered in a way that is enjoyable\, safe and rewarding. \nThe Paddlesport Instructor qualification is designed for instructors running paddlesport taster/starter sessions within the safety management systems of clubs\, centres or other organisations in: \n\nVery Sheltered Water environments (including canals); and\nCraft deemed suitable for a first-time experience (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard)\n\nThe process of completing the qualification aims to help prepare candidates for their first paddlesport instructing role; ‘primed and ready’. \nCandidates need to: \n\nbe aged 14 or over;\nbe members of Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.);\nregister for the Award with Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.) – cost £45;\nhave attended a British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) course – NB I am running one of these on 23 Sep; and\nhave personal paddling (equivalent to the former 2*-level) and rescue competence in one type of craft (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard).\n\nThis non-residential course will take place on the River Usk at Brecon Promenade or the canal in Brecon (depending on water conditions). and is likely to run from 9am-5pm each day. Candidates should be competent paddling in both kayak and canoe to enable them to complete the course\, although it is not necessary formally to hold a British Canoeing Personal Performance Award.\n\nThe FSRT course is a pre-requisite for the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award.\n\nMinimum 2\, maximum 4 candidates [reduced from 6 during Covid-19]. DESCRIPTION:The British Canoeing Coach Award is an entry point qualification which offers discipline-specific pathways across all disciplines. The Award is designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers who want to gain/improve paddlesport skills within the discipline chosen. This will include coaching beginners new to the sport\, or paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline or environment. \nThis 2-day Discipline Specific Training course you will focus on how to coach technical and tactical skills in both Canoe and Kayak on Sheltered Water. The course will help you plan and deliver safe\, enjoyable\, progressive coaching sessions and you’ll explore specifics to help you coach some typical learners relevant to these craft in this environment. \nYou can find more details about the course at https://www.britishcanoeingawarding.org.uk/level-2-coach-award/. \nYou need to meet the following prerequisites before attending the course: \n\nFull ‘on the water’ membership of Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.);\nCompleted Core Coach Training (or the following ‘old’ British Canoeing courses\, if you feel confident with their content: Level 2 (UKCC) Training OR Assessment; Moderate or Advanced Water Training OR Assessment; Level 3 (UKCC) Core Training OR Assessment;\nA good level of knowledge of both canoeing and kayaking on sheltered water; and well-practised personal skills (see Personal Skills Checklist).\n\nMinimum 2\, maximum 4 candidates. \nVenue to be confirmed (somewhere in the Brecon area). \nThe course fee will be no more than £180\, which includes coaching\, equipment and certification. SUMMARY:British Canoeing Core Coach Training Course
DESCRIPTION:The British Canoeing Coach Award is an entry point qualification which offers discipline-specific pathways across all disciplines. The Award is designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers who want to gain/improve paddlesport skills within the discipline chosen. This will include coaching beginners new to the sport\, or paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline or environment. \nThe Coach Award content is delivered through 2-day Core Coach Training and 2-day Discipline Specific Training (22 disciplines currently available\, including Sheltered Water Kayak and/or Canoe; White Water Kayak; White Water Canoe; and Open Water Canoe). \nThe two-day Core Coach Training course introduces the shared coaching content that is relevant to all coaches at this level\, exploring different approaches to coaching\, understanding and enabling learning; and some core coaching skills. It is not specific to any one discipline and will make use of a variety of craft to explore different approaches to coaching and introduce some core coaching skills. SUMMARY:British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award course
DESCRIPTION:The British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor qualification is for people aged 14+ whose main focus of work is delivering paddlesport taster/starter sessions within clubs\, centres or other organisations. The qualification is not discipline specific and is suitable for instructors who work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. \nThe Paddlesport Instructor is an entry-level qualification\, achieved on a 2-day course\, designed for: \n\nInstructors in clubs;\nInstructors for providers/centres who offer paddlesport activity; and\nInstructors within schools\, DofE\, Youth Groups\, Uniformed Groups\, etc.\n\nThe qualification will support the instructor with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat\, initial familiarisation activities\, games and activities to support learning and how to use mini journeys to support learning\, inspire adventure and exploration. This will be enhanced with support on how these sessions can be delivered in a way that is enjoyable\, safe and rewarding. \nThe Paddlesport Instructor qualification is designed for instructors running paddlesport taster/starter sessions within the safety management systems of clubs\, centres or other organisations in: \n\nVery Sheltered Water environments (including canals); and\nCraft deemed suitable for a first-time experience (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard)\n\nThe process of completing the qualification aims to help prepare candidates for their first paddlesport instructing role; ‘primed and ready’. \nCandidates need to: \n\nbe aged 14 or over;\nbe members of Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.);\nregister for the Award with Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.) – cost £45;\nhave attended a British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) course – which I can arrange if necessary; and\nhave personal paddling (equivalent to the former 2*-level) and rescue competence in one type of craft (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard).\n\nThis non-residential course will take place in the Brecon area and is likely to run from 9am-5pm each day. SUMMARY:British Canoeing Foundation Safety & Rescue Training
DESCRIPTION:The FSRT course is intended for all paddlers\, coaches and volunteers irrespective of craft or discipline choice\, and is available in either bank-based or boat-based option (or a combined course covering both). It provides training on key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies in a sheltered water environment in any craft. Candidates should be competent paddling in both kayak and canoe to enable them to complete the course\, although it is not necessary formally to hold a British Canoeing Personal Performance Award. \n\n\n\nThe FSRT course is a pre-requisite for the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award. \n\n\n\nMinimum 2\, maximum 6 candidates. No minimum age (although paddlers must be physically able to undertake the course!). \n\n\n\nParticipants should bring (I can provide * if you do not have these): \n\n\n\n\n* Your usual / preferred craft and paddle (please confirm with me which type of craft you intend to bring\, I will provide others)\n* Buoyancy aid\, helmet\, spray-deck\nPersonal paddling clothing suitable for the weather – we will get wet!\n* Personal safety equipment (throwline\, knife\, towline\, tape/sling\, karabiner)\nPayment for certificate (subject to successful completion) – cash or cheque to “Steve Rayner Outdoor Pursuits” – £5 for Canoe Wales/British Canoeing members or £10 for non-members\nLunches / snacks / drinks\n\n\n\n\nThis course will take place on Rheola Lakes or the Neath Canal\, near Glyn-Neath / Resolven (depending on conditions). \n\n\n\nMeet 9am at McDonalds Glyn-Neath for brief introductions and theory elements. \n\n\n\nCancellation Policy: \n\n\n\nIf the course is cancelled by me\, I will offer a choice between transferring fees to the next available course or receiving a full refund.
