SUMMARY:Outdoor First Aid course (16-hour RLSS accredited)
DESCRIPTION:The 16-hour Outdoor First Aid (OFA) course is suitable for individuals or groups that undertake activities outdoors and enables employers to meet their first aid needs assessment. After completing an RLSS UK OFA course\, candidates receive a Level 3 Outdoor First Aid qualification. Candidates must be aged 16+ at the time of assessment. \n\n\n\nThis course will take place from 9am to 6pm (latest) each day. \n\n\n\nTo reserve your place\, please complete the Booking Form using the button below; you can also pay the full course fee online using the ‘Get Tickets’ button below (or use the BACS details in the booking form\, which will save me a handling fee!). \n\n\n\nCourse Details\n\n\n\nThe Outdoor First Aid (OFA) requires a minimum of 16 hours over 2 days of training and requires 100% attendance. The course will be delivered using a variety of methods including:– PowerPoint presentations– Flip chart exercises– Guided group discussions– Guided group activities– Practical demonstrations and training (indoors and out)The Outdoor First Aid (OFA) certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of successful completion of the course. \n\n\n\nTopics Covered:\n\n\n\nYou will learn how to provide first aid in an outdoor environment to casualties\, including the management of unconscious casualties\, CPR\, bleeding\, shock\, minor injuries\, a variety of first aid related incidents and medical conditions in the outdoors. The course is designed for all paddlers irrespective of their chosen craft. The objective is to introduce\, explore and practise simple strategies and safe skills that can provide you with the tools to solve common paddling issues. \n\n\n\nYou will spend much of the day with your ‘preferred craft’ (open canoe\, kayak\, sit-on-top or paddleboard)\, but will need to spend at least some time with the other craft as we will learn how to deal with them all. You need therefore to be competent paddling your ‘preferred craft’ to enable you to complete the course. Although it is not necessary to hold a British Canoeing Awarding Body Personal Performance Award\, you should have ability in at least one craft equivalent to the Paddle Explore Award. \n\n\n\nThe Paddlesport Safety & Rescue course is a pre-requisite for the British Canoeing Awarding Body Paddlesport Instructor Award. \n\n\n\nMinimum 2\, maximum 8 candidates. DESCRIPTION:NB we will aim to arrange a Zoom meeting one evening 7-9pm before this course to run through some of the introductory and ‘theoretical’ elements. \n\n\n\nThe British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor qualification is for people aged 14+ whose main focus of work is delivering paddlesport taster/starter sessions within clubs\, centres or other organisations. The qualification is not discipline-specific and is suitable for instructors who work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. \n\n\n\nThe Paddlesport Instructor is an entry-level qualification\, achieved on a 2-day course\, designed for: \n\n\n\n\nInstructors in clubs;\n\n\n\nInstructors for providers/centres who offer paddlesport activity; and\n\n\n\nInstructors within schools\, DofE\, Youth Groups\, Uniformed Groups\, etc.\n\n\n\n\nThe qualification will support the instructor with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat\, initial familiarisation activities\, games and activities to support learning and how to use mini journeys to support learning\, inspire adventure and exploration. This will be enhanced with support on how these sessions can be delivered in a way that is enjoyable\, safe and rewarding. \n\n\n\nThe Paddlesport Instructor qualification is designed for instructors running paddlesport taster/starter sessions within the safety management systems of clubs\, centres or other organisations in: \n\n\n\n\nVery Sheltered Water environments (including canals); and\n\n\n\nCraft deemed suitable for a first-time experience (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard)\n\n\n\n\nThe process of completing the qualification aims to help prepare candidates for their first paddlesport instructing role; ‘primed and ready’. \n\n\n\nCandidates need to: \n\n\n\n\nbe aged 14 or over;\n\n\n\nbe members of Paddle Cymru / Paddle UK (etc.);\n\n\n\nregister for the Award with Paddle Cymru / Paddle UK (etc.) – cost c.£48;\n\n\n\nhave attended a British Canoeing Awarding Body Paddlesport Safety & Rescue (PSR) OR Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) course; and\n\n\n\nhave personal paddling (equivalent to the Explore Award / former 2*-level) and rescue competence in one type of craft (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard).\n\n\n\n\nThis non-residential course will take place in the Brecon area and will run from 9am-6pm each day. SUMMARY:British Canoeing Awarding Body Canoe & Kayak Coach (Sheltered Water) Training
DESCRIPTION:This is a non-residential 2-day course. We will be paddling somewhere in Mid or South Wales on both days\, most likely one day on Llandrindod Wells Lake and one day on a sheltered section of the Usk or Wye – but this will depend on weather and water conditions on the day. I will aim to arrange a Zoom call in the week before the course\, when we’ll run through venue options\, logistic arrangements and some of the introductory course material\, after which I will confirm the Tuesday meeting venue. \n\n\n\nThe British Canoeing Awarding Body Coach Award is an entry point qualification designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline or environment. \n\n\n\nThis 2-day Discipline Specific Training course will focus on how to coach technical and tactical skills in Canoe and/or Kayak on Sheltered Water. DESCRIPTION:The White Water Award is designed to develop your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills for a safe day out white water paddling in a kayak or OC1. It endorses your skill\, judgment and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with Progressive White Water Award holders. \n\n\n\nThe amount of training required for the White Water Award depends on prior experience; but as a guideline\, participants should expect to spend two days honing their skills\, with either ‘continual assessment’ or a separate half- or one-day assessment. \n\n\n\nThis 2-day course is intended to provide training tailored to the individual needs of participants and\, for those who meet the require standard\, an opportunity for assessment for this Award. It is not specific to any one discipline and will make use of a variety of craft to explore different approaches to coaching and introduce some core coaching skills. The qualification is not discipline-specific and is suitable for instructors who work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. \n\n\n\nThe Paddlesport Instructor is an entry-level qualification\, achieved on a 2-day course\, designed for: \n\n\n\nInstructors in clubs;Instructors for providers/centres who offer paddlesport activity; andInstructors within schools\, DofE\, Youth Groups\, Uniformed Groups\, etc.\n\n\n\nThe qualification will support the instructor with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat\, initial familiarisation activities\, games and activities to support learning and how to use mini journeys to support learning\, inspire adventure and exploration. It endorses your skill\, judgment and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with Progressive White Water Award holders. \n\n\n\nThe amount of training required for the White Water Award depends on prior experience; but as a guideline\, participants should expect to spend two days honing their skills\, with either ‘continual assessment’ or a separate half- or one-day assessment. \n\n\n\nThis 2-day course is intended to provide training tailored to the individual needs of participants and\, for those who meet the require standard\, an opportunity for assessment for this Award. The qualification is not discipline-specific and is suitable for instructors who work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. \n\n\n\nThe Paddlesport Instructor is an entry-level qualification\, achieved on a 2-day course\, designed for: \n\n\n\nInstructors in clubs;Instructors for providers/centres who offer paddlesport activity; andInstructors within schools\, DofE\, Youth Groups\, Uniformed Groups\, etc.\n\n\n\nThe qualification will support the instructor with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat\, initial familiarisation activities\, games and activities to support learning and how to use mini journeys to support learning\, inspire adventure and exploration. It endorses your skill\, judgment and decision making when journeying. You will be confident in planning and undertaking canoe journeys on the water in winds up to and including force 3 and taking place on grade 1 rivers with simple eddy lines. Your award is a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with the Progressive Canoe Award. \n\n\n\nThe amount of training required for the Canoe Award depends on prior experience; but as a guideline\, participants should expect to spend two days honing their skills\, with either ‘continual assessment’ or a separate half- or one-day assessment. \n\n\n\nThis 2-day course is intended to provide training tailored to the individual needs of participants and\, for those who meet the require standard\, an opportunity for assessment for this Award. The dates shown below are for the ‘practical’ sessions only. \n\nYou must not attend if you are currently experiencing any of the symptoms of Covid-19 or if you have been asked to isolate because you are a contact of a known Covid-19 case or if you  are subject to a 14-day isolation period following travel overseas.\nYou should arrive in your own vehicle and avoid car-sharing with anyone outside of your [extended] household.\nYou will be expected to comply with social distancing and hygiene measures during the course.\nPlease bring as much of your own equipment as possible\, to avoid unnecessary sharing.\n\nThe British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor qualification is for people aged 14+ whose main focus of work is delivering paddlesport taster/starter sessions within clubs\, centres or other organisations. The qualification is not discipline-specific and is suitable for instructors who work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. \nThe Paddlesport Instructor is an entry-level qualification\, achieved on a 2-day course\, designed for: \n\nInstructors in clubs;\nInstructors for providers/centres who offer paddlesport activity; and\nInstructors within schools\, DofE\, Youth Groups\, Uniformed Groups\, etc.\n\nThe qualification will support the instructor with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat\, initial familiarisation activities\, games and activities to support learning and how to use mini journeys to support learning\, inspire adventure and exploration. This will be enhanced with support on how these sessions can be delivered in a way that is enjoyable\, safe and rewarding. \nThe Paddlesport Instructor qualification is designed for instructors running paddlesport taster/starter sessions within the safety management systems of clubs\, centres or other organisations in: \n\nVery Sheltered Water environments (including canals); and\nCraft deemed suitable for a first-time experience (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard)\n\nThe process of completing the qualification aims to help prepare candidates for their first paddlesport instructing role; ‘primed and ready’. \nCandidates need to: \n\nbe aged 14 or over;\nbe members of Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.);\nregister for the Award with Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.) – cost £45;\nhave attended a British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) course – I can run one of these for you if required; and\nhave personal paddling (equivalent to the former 2*-level) and rescue competence in one type of craft (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard).\n\nThis non-residential course will take place on the River Usk at Brecon Promenade or the canal in Brecon (depending on water conditions). and is likely to run from 9am-6pm each day. Candidates are responsible for arranging their own accommodation if required. \nMinimum 4\, maximum 6 candidates. \nThe course fee will be no more than £180\, which includes coaching\, equipment and certification.
